1801 | Civil Rights: David Emmanuel became the first Jewish Governor in America taking office in Georgia.
1803 | Congress: The first government impeachment trial focused on John Pickering began.
1807 | POTUS: Democratic-Republican President Jefferson signed the Insurrection Act. At the time, it was seen as necessary response to put down a potential rebellion by Aaron Burr.
